EPDM Rubber Roofing for Commercial and Industrial Projects

ClassicBond EPDM is a non-reinforced EPDM rubber elastomeric homogenous roof membrane. PIRS supplies ClassicBond for use on single-ply roofs and reroofing projects, making it suitable for contractors and roofing professionals working on new and refurbishment projects.

The membrane is available in 1.2 mm and 1.5 mm thicknesses. PIRS’s published product information gives widths of up to 15 m and lengths of up to 30.5 m for the current ClassicBond product. The technical data also specifies tensile strength of at least 8 N/mm², elongation of at least 350% and tear resistance of at least 25 N.

ClassicBond membranes are also tested for characteristics including UV exposure, ozone resistance, dimensional stability and water permeability. The published technical data records zero water permeability under the stated test method.

One Piece EPDM Rubber

Our One Piece EPDM Rubber range is designed for projects requiring EPDM membrane in a larger sheet format.

The ClassicBond EPDM membrane is available in different roll dimensions depending on the membrane thickness. PIRS’s published technical documentation lists widths from 1.37 m through to 15.25 m and lengths from 15.25 m up to 61 m for the specified membrane options. Check the current product information for the available sizes when specifying material for a particular project.

For projects requiring joining or detailing, ClassicBond also has associated products including bonding adhesive, splicing products, seam tape, primers, flashing products and water cut-off mastic. These products are intended to work as part of the ClassicBond EPDM roofing system and should be selected according to the installation requirements of the project.

EPDM Roofing and Waterproofing Details

EPDM roofing systems require suitable detailing around areas such as roof edges, corners, outlets, penetrations and other changes in the roof surface. ClassicBond’s published system information includes EPDM flashing and pressure-sensitive detailing products for applications including pipes, corners, outlets and other penetrations.

For example, ClassicBond pressure-sensitive flashing tape is designed to adapt to irregular shapes and surfaces and can be used for flashing and waterproofing roof details. Pressure-sensitive pipe seals are also available for round flat-roof penetrations.

Where a project requires bonding the membrane to a substrate, ClassicBond bonding adhesive is available as part of the system. The manufacturer’s published application information specifies that the adhesive is applied to the surfaces being bonded and that the membrane should be pressed onto the prepared surface and rolled to ensure adhesion and remove trapped air.
